Photonic medical devices
Cybiocare (sigh-bee-oh-care) was founded in 2001 with the mission
to improve quality of life for millions of people around the world
by developing, manufacturing and marketing non-invasive photonic
medical devices with an initial focus on the burgeoning market for
diabetes control.
The company is currently developing photonics-based products to
accurately measure a full range of clinical states including heart
beat, blood perfusion, oximetry, hydration and relative glucose trend,
as well as tissue temperature and humidity. Cybiocare photonic medical
devices are designed for portable monitoring and point-of-care testing
at home or in research, clinical, hospital and even sports settings.
Photonics technology is what makes it non-invasive
Photonics technology transforms and guides light to measure, compute,
detect and communicate information with greater efficiency, speed
and precision than ever before. Cybiocare is putting the latest
advances in photonics technology to work creating non-invasive
medical devices for a wide variety of disease and pathogenic applications.
“Applications of new optical technologies to biology
and medicine might be described as in an adolescent stage, where
their
power and
potential can be recognized but are still developing rapidly,
and much is yet to come.”
- Charles H. Townes, Nobel Prize Winner in Physics
and co-inventor of the laser in a review of the 2003 edition
of
the Biomedical Photonics Handbook
